Early ulcerative colitis.
Diffuse inflammation may cause an opaque granular mucosa with loss of normal vascular pattern, patchy erythema and some micropus (Fig. 3.192). At this stage radiological appearances are commonly normal. The histopathological features of early UC are shown in Fig. 3.194. The changes described above differ from those seen in early colonic Crohn's disease.
