fiogf49gjkf0d Michel Greff was born on 27 January 1948 in Forbach, in the eastern part of France. In 1979 he married Marie-Odile Rossini. They have two children - Raphael, born in July 1983, and Myriam, born in April 1985.
Dr Greff completed his secondary education in the east of France. Between 1967 and 1968 he studied fundamental mathematics. He then studied medicine from 1968 until 1974 at the Faculty of Medicine in Nancy. From 1975 to 1979 he was a resident in gastroenterology at the Besancon's University Hospital.
Since 1983 Dr Greff has worked as a gastroenterologist at the Arnault Tzanck Institute, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, in the South of France.
Due to both his scientific recognition and his nationality, he was elected as a member of the Council of the French Society of Digestive Endoscopy. Since 1992 he has held the position of International Secretary.
He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Endoscopy. Dr Greff has been on the board of the European Union of Medical Specialists' Gastroenterology Division since 1989. He was appointed President of the Society between 1992 and 1996, and has been President of the Board since 1997. In addition, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Union's French Division since 2000.
- What made you decide to become a gastroenterologist?
- I met Robert JeanPierre in Nancy in 1972. He practiced the first endoscopic retrograde cholangiography pancreatography (ERCP) in France. He was very enthusiastic and communicated his passion for gastroenterology and endoscopy to me.
- Who was the teacher you admired the most?
- I have a lot of admiration and great respect for Robert Gabriele, who taught me general internal medicine at Forbach's General Hospital in eastern France.
- Which research paper influenced you the most?
- A paper by Professor Jean-Philippe Miguet, an hepatologist at the Besancon's University Hospital, on toxic hepatitis.
- What is the most important fact that you have discovered?
- The whole of the universe, from my readings and experience of the French philosopher Teilhard De Chardin.
- What is the biggest mistake that you have made?
- To have taken my confidence for granted.
- What is your unfulfilled ambition?
- To establish a recognized European professional body in which all specialist physicians are members
- What is your greatest regret?
- Not to have found the funds to build a prototype endoscope, using the principle of Fabry-Perot's Chamber to associate the optical fiber, the laser beam, and the effect mirror.

- Mountain walking.
- What is your favorite sport?
- Cycling.
- What is your best place in the world?
- The Austrian Alps.
- What is your favorite film?
- "Bleu" 1993 - directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski. This is the first in the film trilogy: "Three Colors: Blue, White and Red".

- Citroen Xantia.

- Nothing.
