fiogf49gjkf0d Michel Mignon is a Consultant at the Hopital Bichat-Claude Bernard, Paris, France. He was formerly the Chairman of the Department of Hepato-Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition at this same hospital. He is also a Professor of Hepato-Gastroenterology, Bichat Hospital, University of Paris VII and a senior clinical researcher.
Professor Mignon is a member of the BSG, the AGA, and the SNFGE. He is also a member of the European Neuro-Endocrine Tumor Group (ENET) and the European Board of Gastroenterology of the UEMS.
His 3 main fields of interest are digestive endocrine tumors, acid-related diseases, and ulcerative colitis.
Professor Mignon has contributed to around 320 original scientific papers and about 300 oral or poster presentations, the majority of them in English.
He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and was formerly on the boards of Gastroenterologie clinique et biologique, and the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology.
Michel Mignon has visiting professorships in the USA, Germany, China, Japan, and South America.
- What made you decide to become a gastroenterologist?
- Two years spent as senior resident at Bichat Hospital (Professor A. Lambling and S. Bonfils' department and INSERM research Unit) and one year at Beaujon Hospital (Professor J.P. Benhamou).
- Who was the teacher you admired the most?
- Professor Morton I. Grossman (Los Angeles) and Professor J.P. Benhamou in Paris.
- Which research paper influenced you the most?
- Papers relating to the discovery of SRIF (later called Somatostatin) by R.Guillemin and A. Schally.
- What is the most important fact that you have discovered?
- Surgery never, or very rarely, cures patients with gastrinoma and MEN1 (publications in 1981, 1986, 1993, 1995, and 1999).
- What is the biggest mistake that you have made?
- Not learning to play a musical instrument!
- What is your unfulfilled ambition?
- Being rich! Or more precisely, to have a large garden to grow flowers, especially lilies, roses, and tulips.
- What is your greatest regret?
- To have not yet lived long enough to become a philosopher, providing that it would it be possible for me to reach such a stage!
- How do you relax?
- Reading, or listening to Mozart or Beethoven's music.
- What is your favorite sport?
- Tennis.
- What is your best place in the world?
- My chalet at the top of the Chamonix Valley, where I admire the Mont Blanc snow and glacier-covered mountain range.

- "War and Peace", adapted from Leon Tolstoy's novel.
