fiogf49gjkf0d Norton J Greenberger, MD is Professor of Medicine and Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Dr Greenberger obtained his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his MD degree from Western Reserve University Medical School. He did his residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland, and his fellowship training at the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Following his fellowship, Dr Greenberger was at Ohio State University College of Medicine from 1965 to 1972 as Director of the Division of Gastroenterology. From 1972 to 2000 Dr Greenberger served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine (UKSM). From 2000 to 2002 he was Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education at UKSM.
Dr Greenberger has been recognized by his peers, faculty, and students for his ability to impact teaching at every level. His support for education extends beyond his teaching sessions through his 220 publications, including his book Gastrointestinal Disorders, his summary of gastroenterology literature in the Year Book of Digestive Diseases, from 1985 to 1997. In addition, Dr Greenberger has authored chapters on Disorders of Intestinal Absorption, Approach to the Patient with Pancreatic Disease, Acute and Chronic Pancreatitis, and Diseases of the Biliary Tract in all of the editions of Harrison Textbook of Internal Medicine from 1970 up to and including the most recent edition published in 2000.
In addition to his extensive role in educating medical students and residents, he has served as President of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Physicians and the Association of Professors of Medicine. He has been honored for his teaching ability several times, receiving the Outstanding Teaching Award at Ohio State University Hospitals, the American Gastroenterological Association Distinguished Educator Award and, from several graduating classes at the University of Kansas, the Outstanding Teaching and Outstanding Educator Awards. Other awards and honors include honorary fellowships from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ireland, and the College of Physicians of South Africa.
