fiogf49gjkf0d Dr Thierry Poynard is currently the Head of the Hepato-Gastroenterology Department, Groupe Hospitalier Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris France.
Dr Poynard attended the University of Paris where he completed a PhD in Biostatistics in 1986, and a Hepatology and Gastroenterology Specialty in 1987 (Professor in 1988).
He was Professor of Hepato-Gastroenterology at Groupe Hospitalier Pitié-Salpêtrière from 1993 to 2001. He became Head of the Hepatology and Gastroenterology Department in 2001.
Dr Poynard is also Research Assistant-Director, Research Unit CNRS-ESA 8067. His particular research interests are clinical research in hepatology, natural history, diagnosis and treatment of chronic liver diseases.
He is a member of the Association Française pour l'Etude du Foie, the Société Nationale Française de Gastroentérologie, the European Association for the Study of the Liver, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.
Dr Poynard was the Chief Editor of Gastroenterologie Clinique et Biologique from 1988 to 1992. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hepatology in 1995, Antiviral Therapy and the Cochrane Hepatobiliary Group in 1996, and Hepatology in 1997.
Dr Poynard is also an expert at the French Drug Agency (AFSSAPS) and the European Drug Agency (CPMP).
He has written or edited the following titles, Hépatite C le virus caché: vérités pour le demi million de français contaminés (Hachette 1995), Hepatitis C Infection: Management and Treatment (Dunitz 2000), Hepatitis B and C: Management and Treatment (Dunitz 2001), and Hepatitis C and B: Management and Treatment (Taylor and Francis 2003).
